History
The Yunnan’s business commenced at the fringe of the then Nanyang University in the early 1970s.  Because of its close proximity to the University Park named Yunnan Garden, the family owned business decided to name all its trades; (a cafeteria, a provision shop and a stationary shop) after it. What started as a small cafeteria providing largely to the student community and academia of the then Nanyang University grew into a full fledge seafood restaurant over a period of a decade. In the 1980s because of government’s redevelopment plan for the university, Yunnan Seafood restaurant was relocated out of the University area.

From one restaurant when it first started, numerous other branches started sprouting in the western part of the island in the 1990s to cater to popular demands, the Yunnan View Restaurant is one of them. Over the decades, Yunnan remains a household name especially among the population in the west and is a popular venue for wedding, birthday, Chinese New Year celebrations. Many of Yunnan’s customers have remained loyal and still patronize it regularly for its award-winning chilli crab as well as its ever popular dim sum.
